Glymjack is the critically acclaimed indie-folk project of award-winning songwriter Greg McDonald.
Glymjack's live shows balance Greg's hard-hitting songs - hailed as “passionate, powerful and poetic” by Rolling Stone and "East Anglia's gift to the world" by BBC Radio 1 - with the warmth and laughter Greg's brought to two thousand gigs and counting, and the dazzling flair of fiddle virtuoso Gemma Gayner and Radio 2 Folk Award nominated melodeon player Saul Bailey.
Featuring folk legends Show of Hands, Glymjack's debut album Light the Evening Fire has been called, “spine-tingling” (Spiral Earth), “life-affirming” (Folk Radio), “beautiful” (Totally Radio), “powerful” (Rock’n’Reel), “incredible” (Roots and Fusion), “a tour-de-force” (Maverick), “a torch of hope” (Louder than War), and “the best of British folk” (The Moment).
A glymjack was a street child who led strangers through Victorian London at night with a lantern - a character forgotten by history but celebrated with the lighting of a glymjack's lantern at the beginning of each Glymjack show.
Away from Glymjack, Greg plays with The Phil Beer Band, writes music for Countryfile and wild-camps the Norfolk Coast Path.
